Personal Rapid Transit System in Trivandrum

According to experts it is expected that, once the personal rapid transit system is fully implemented in trivandrum city then 28,000 people who are traveling by cars and auto rickshaws will switch to Personal Rapid Transit System. The first phase of this project will be implemented in 5 kms starting from Sasthamangalam to Eastfort (Kizhakkekotta).

Pillars for this Rapid Transit System will be erected in the dividers. This personal rapid system will provide connection to the upcoming mono rail project in trivandrum. The minimum charge for PRT is currently calculated as 10 Rs and fairstage will be decided later. Initially the PRT will be having stops in Vellayambalam, Statue, Palayam. Overbridge, Eastfort and Thampanoor.

In the second phase places like Eanchakkal, General Hospital, Sasthamangalam, Jagathy, Museum Juncation will be having bus stations and another 14 more stops will be added. Currently the project is being designed in such a way as it will cover in and out of the city. This type of Public Transit System is a working model in Heathrow Airpot in London and this type of project has been initiated in Amritsar also. It is expected that building costs will be about 60 crores for one km.

The combined efforts and invetment of Inkel and Ultrafare wood private limited will make this project a reality and the government of kerala is not funding for this project. These type of cars are called pods is fully controlled by computers and will not collide with each other. It can move at a speed of more than 40 kms in an hour.
