With just three days to Onam, state-wide sales at the special festival fairs organised by Consumerfed over the past month have soared past Rs 100 crores.
Consumerfed has opened 4,551 special Onam sales outlets across 14 districts selling 13 essential items at subsidised prices, besides an Onam ‘payasam’ kit and other non-subsidised goods. The 13 items which are being sold at discounts of up to 30% include four varieties of rice, sugar, green gram, Bengal gram, black gram, tuhar dal, red beans, coriander, two varieties of chillies and coconut oil.
Consumerfed president Adv Joy Thomas and Managing Director Dr Riji G Nair said subsidy sales of around Rs 46.95 crores and non-subsidy sales of Rs 8.93 crores have been reported from these outlets.
The Onam fair which began on September 1 will be on until September 15. The festival sales of Consumerfed began on August 1 with a 10-day Ramzan fair which saw record sales of Rs 37.04 crores through 2,707 outlets.
The sales continued through the month at special fairs set up at the district and assembly constituency levels. Sales at these outlets have reached Rs 13.46 crores (subsidy sales of Rs 10.35 crore and non-subsidy sales of Rs 3.1 crore).
Total Onam sales in each district so far: Trivandrum (Rs 4.93 crores), Kollam (Rs 7.15 crores), Pathanamthitta (Rs 2.80 crores), Alappuzha (Rs 4.09 crores), Kottayam (Rs 1.64 crores), Idukki (Rs 1.21 crores), Ernakulam (Rs 6.99 crores), Thrissur (Rs 7.86 crores), Malappuram (Rs 3.11 crores), Palakkad (Rs 6.58 crores), Kozhikode (Rs 3.98 crores), Wayanad (Rs 1.49 crores), Kannur (Rs 2.88 crores), Kasaragod (Rs 1.13 crores).
Total Onam outlets in each district are: Trivandrum (652), Kollam (601), Pathanamthitta (137), Alappuzha (400), Kottayam (209), Idukki (141), Ernakulam (371), Thrissur (578), Malappuram (311), Palakkad (437), Kozhikode (312), Wayanad (107), Kannur (204), Kasaragod (91).
